Industry Focus

The CACT @ ATEP improves the competitiveness of small and medium-sized optics and photonics manufacturing and engineering companies, by fortifying sound manufacturing technologies and by supporting the development of a skilled workforce. Initial on-site assessments are made without obligation and programs are customized to meet specific customer needs. Focusing on increasing a business' productivity, Centers assist clients in areas such as process improvements, advanced materials technology, environmentally sound manufacturing, workforce assessment, customized training, and quality improvement techniques; examples include ISO, Lean Q1, AQS and many more.

Core Competencies

  • Photonics Industry certification courses in Optics, Lasers, Fiber Optics and Lens Design, including a Laser Safety workshop
  • Optics Fabrication Certification for practical skills in producing precision optical components, and non-contact metrology using Optical Interferometry
  • Optics Technician Training at company sites in fundamentals, laser basics, laser safety, and optical component cleaning & inspection
  • Manufacturers Workforce Development with emphasis on CAD/CAM and Production/Purchasing/Inventory Management, and workshop on Technological Forecasting
  • Business support for technology companies offering assessment and consultation
  • Business Incubator service at the former Tustin Marine Corps Air Station, Orange County

This course has been very timely for Raytheon. Technicians knowledgeable in optics and lasers are urgently needed at this time to carry out Raytheon's production assembly. The students are to be congratulated for their time and effort put into these classes and labs. The program was a success.
